New report reveals surprise change to iPad Pro 2024 - M3 chip replaced by M4. Expect super-fast performance and AI features.

The rumors about the upcoming features of the new iPad Pro 2024 we thought were more or less confirmed by now: a new OLED screen, new M3 chip, a slightly larger screen (12.9 inches to 13 inches) and other minor changes.

But according to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, an "Apple soothsayer" with an impressive track record, it appears that at least one of those rumors is wrong. It turns out that the iPad Pro might not get the M3 chip after all. iPad Pro 2024 plot twist Gurman claims there is a "high probability" that the next generation of iPad Pro tablets will be equipped with the M4 chip, a change from his August 2023 report in which he claimed they would be equipped with M3 chips.

First, in a mid-April report, Gurman said M4 chips would be used in the following next-generation Apple hardware: iMac, entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini Now, however, there are rumors that the iPad Pro 2024 may also be added to the list.

The M4 chips, according to Gurman, will add some new AI capabilities to the new line of Apple hardware this year, thanks to a new neural engine. In other words, Apple is reportedly skipping the M3 chip for the iPad Pro models and directly introducing an AI-focused M4 processor to the high-end tablet line.

"I think Apple will position the tablet as its first truly AI-powered device and that from then on they will tout every new product as an AI device," says Gurman. "This is, of course, in response to the AI hysteria that has swept the tech industry for the past few years."

Additionally, the iPad Pro 2024 is likely to be incredibly fast compared to the current generation, M2-based iPad Pro that launched in 2022. We expect Apple to launch the new iPads during the highly anticipated "Let Loose" live stream on May 7 . Only then will we know if Gurman's prediction holds true.
